What is involved in sanding cedar shakes?

I would like to repaint my cedar shakes but need to sand them first.

Cedar shakes are very easy to damage. I would reccomend using a primer and paint but if you must sand them you should use a very mild paint remover in thin coats. Then when you get to the sanding make sure to use a low RPM sander. Do not apply undue pressure while sanding.

Cedar isn't meant to be painted, it should be stained if you don't like the natural aging of the wood. Painting will destroy the cedar since it can't breathe and will lead to rot and mold. Sand blasting is the best way to remove the paint and get the pores of the wood reopened.

There are different way for this. For sanding cedar shakes, the best ways could be pressure wahing, corn blasting or corn blasting. Chemical stripping can scrapping also can be tried for better results.

Before painting the old paint should be peeled out of it. we should scrap the old paint and then sanding block is scraped over the window to give good finish. After that timber paint is coated first and then painted. Appropriate paint can be applied on wooden doors and windows.
