You need grit sandpaper particularly the 220 kind to remove the gloss that comes from the ceramic tools. The gloss and shine will be removed accordingly. Just use the 220 brand.

Sanding ceramc tiles in preparation for painting requires a 220 grit sandpaper because it is coarse enough to remove the shiny gloss from the tiles, but not rough enough to leave marks that can later show up in your paint. Using a hand held sander can take alot of the elbow grease out of the job as well.

In order to sand ceramic tiles you will need: a power sander and a fine or extra fine grade of sandpaper, depending upon how much of the finish you want to remove. Apply medium pressure while moving the sander continuously over the surface of the tiles in a circular pattern. Do not vary the amount of pressure.

It is recommended that you use an orbital sander with 220 grit sand paper. The appeal of ceramic tile is the smooth surface of the tile. Sanding it will remove the glaze and any unwanted blemishes. Once the tile is sanded then the tile can be painted or glazed again to restore the shine.

You should use the finest snad paper grit possible to sand a ceramic tile floor. The reason is that ceramic can stratch and crack easily and this is the best for it

Why sand ceramic tile? Painting? Tiling over? There is a different answer for different situations. If it's a small amount of tile and you're tiling over, 80-grit sandpaper may be fine. If need tooth without changing texture, try 220-grit with an orbital sander.

You should purchase the correct tools to properly sand your ceramic tile. You can visit your local hardware store and purchase a book to make sure that you have all that you need to make your tile look professional done.

The best thing to use is a thirty grit sand paper and possibly a sander depending on big the area is that you want to sand. Thirty grit is good because it will not take everything off but it will still leave you enough to play with unless you do take it all off.
