The privet hedge is a shrub grown as a hedge on the borders of a yard. The Latin name is Ligustrum lucidem. This hedge can grow up to 30 feet in height. It grows well in either alkaline or acid soil. It is hardy in the lower two thirds of the United States.

A privet hedge will grow into a thick, impenetrable hedge in only a few years. The only thing they require is pruning and moist soil. They grow in sun or partial shade. What they are is a hedge which you use for privacy rather than a block wall or a fence. They grow well in all climates.
