Lighter weights with more reps for muscle toning, 3-4 days per week. Mix in some cardio with that, but be mindful of any muscle or joint discomfort and do not overwork your body.

Old fashion walking. You should walk at least for 30 min a day, at a speed that is not too slow and gives you a little challenge. Try doing squats and lounges 4-5 sets of 15 or more if possible.

The most important thing is to have a doctor verify that you are healthy enough for exercise, and to follow any limits that he assigns. You should focus on cardiovascular exercises--swimming, bicycling, rowing, even walking. Try to vary the exercise that you do as much as possible.
