31/4 cups flour 11/2 tsp baking powder 11/4 cups butter 1 cup sugar 1 egg 1 Tbsp. milk 21/2 tsp. vanilla Combine dry ingredients.Mix butter;sugar.Add egg,milk,vanilla. Add flour.Chill 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 350. Cream together 2/3 cup each shortening and butter and 1 1/2 cups white sugar. Stir in 2 eggs and 2 tsps vanilla extract. Combine 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 2 tsps baking powder and 1 tsp salt. Stir into creamed mixture. Roll dough into walnut-sized balls. Roll in 1/3 cup sugar. Bake 10-12 minutes on pan.

You'll need butter, flour and powdered sugar (not granulated sugar), cream of tartar and a few other ingredients. I use almond extract in my sugar cookies and it adds a really nice flavor to them.
