None generally. You can dye your carpets and just keep your animals away from them until the process is completed. You can go to a pet supply store to see if they have any advice regarding this issue.

There are some organic dyes that are the best for animals and pets. Look online for some of these dyes to find out if they are safe for your pets to walk on.

Only dyes from carpet dyeing companies have safe dyes that will not harm animals, or children. One company is "Color Carpet". Also make sure to see references from the company.

I would advise against this. If the carpet is bad, rip it up and start over. There is carpet and padding for sale that is pet friendly, also think green. As far as cleaning, I would steam clean with pure steam and nothing else.
