The abbreviation 'inc' stands for 'increase'. Increasing the number of stitches in your piece will change the shape of the knitted piece (for example, you would use it to make a sleeve wider). There are several ways of increasing a stitch. These methods include casting on (co), yarn over (yo), and make one (m1).

The knitting abbreviation "inc" means increase. M1 also means the same thing. "Inc 2 stitches in every row" Would mean use the same increase previously mentioned twice in every row.

Well the answer to the question, What does the knitting abreviation inc mean in a knitted pattern is very simple. It means increase. Increase in knitting means to add a stich on that row in order to increase the width of the item being knitted. The more you increase, the wider the item becomes.

In your knitting project you may see the word "inc". This will mean you have to increase your project by the number of stitches the instructions provide.
