Check out a senior citizen community center. They generally have classes or meetings of many crafts. Even if you are not a senior the older folk are generally willing to share knowledge of what is becoming a lost art. Libraries and the local school district might have occasional class.

The best, most affordable, and most enjoyable resource are more experienced knitters. Places where you buy your yarn and other knitting supplies should help you meet some. Also local nursing homes may have seasoned knitters who would happily lend a hand.

There are many online websites that offer help and tips on knitting. You can find patterns and tutorials showing the different types of stiches and the latest and greatest supplies. Sometimes members of a community start knitting clubs in the area. Look to see if one is availbile near you and attend a few sessions. You may learn something.
