Your refrigerator is not working. What's in back of a refrigerator is the heat exchange coils which dissipate heat and are consequently warm, if not hot, to the touch.

this sounds like a real old refrigerator.. the new fangled friges are significantly more efficient that the old ones... if possible you should think of upgrading - you will probably save enough money in electricity in a short period of time to cover the cost of the upgrade.

Well it means it's broken. There should never be ice outside your refrigerator or freezer. There is insulation to prevent that. There could be a hole in the freezer or there could be a leek in the coolant line. You will need to call a repairman or buy a new one.

Ice on the wall behind the refrigerator is a sign that the coolant is not being properly contained. That is, your refrigerator is cooling down more than it needs to. It is also a sign that you have enough moisture in the area to form ice.
