Is baking soda safe?
Answer by amber33 (1941)
I would not use baking soda on a baby or young child. You can buy a baby toothbrush which usually comes with paste too.

For real young babies, it is best just to use water and a finger brush. Once teeth have developed, a non-fluoride toothpaste is best.

I used baby toothpaste (after the baby had teeth). Before, I used the finger brush on the gum. I do not think baking soda is harmful, only in larger quantities.

Using just water to wipe baby's teeth is okay. There are non-floride toothpastes for infants and toddlers. You can also use xylitol.
