It is very important for you to continue nursing when you are sick. This will provide the baby with important antibodies to fight against whatever illness you may have. They are likely to contract it whether your nursing or not, so they need those important nutrients and antibodies.

Breastfeeding even while you are under the weather is generally fine, as long as you are not taking any medications that can transfer to the baby via breast milk. Try to keep your face away from the baby during nursing sessions, but it is actually beneficial to your baby to nurse through your sickness, since you pass on immunities.

Practice good hygiene such as hand washing, covering mouth and nose during cough or sneeze. The virus you have would be transmitted through direct contact or though the air.

Your baby would not get your stomach bug since your milk has a different source. I suggest you go to your physician and get a drug safe for you to use to get rid of this bug.

The organism that is causing you stomach problems most probably is not transmitted through your breast milk. But it can be transmitted through your hands. So as long as you wash your hands thoroughly before you handle or feed the baby, the baby will have no problems.

If it is within your stomach, your child cannot get it from breast milk. If you have a virus or bacteria in the blood stream, breastmilk can spread it.

Feed the baby formula for a few days but be sure to pump on a regular basis to keep your supply up. Once you are better beging feeding again.

I myself has has 3 children that i breastfed. If i felt in any way that i was feeling sick or was sick i would want the best for my child. In that case rather than take the chance the child having any issues I myself bottle fed until i knew i was better than i would continue to brestfeed.
