What do vets look for when diagnosing sick puppies?

When a puppy is sick, a vet will take it's temperature. They will also check their gums to see if they are pale. They make sure the puppy isn't dehydrated from vomiting. They may draw blood and check for worms. The most important thing is to rule out the possibility that the puppy has parvo.

For a general check up, you Vet will look at their teeth and gum for odd color/smell, the eyes for gunk/discoloration, and in the ears for build up. They may also check the stool and do a de-worming. Extreme cases may cause for Parvo, Rabies, and other testing to be done.

There a lot of things to look for. But in general, sunken eyes, healthy teeth, check the fur for fleas or any signs of rash. Check ears to make sure there are no parasites. They will also check the temperature to make sure nothing is signaling infection. They may also do a urine check.

Lots of things. General appearance, temperature. They look at gum color & CRT (Capillary Refill Time), which is determined by pressing the gums and seeing how long it takes to refill with color. Then has the pet been eating & drinking ok? Vomitting or diarrhea? If diarrhea, was there blood in it?
