You should take your puppy to a veterinarian for a check up and for his vaccinations. It is common for them to be very stressed during the first day at home and this can often lower the puppy's immune system. Diarrhea can occur if you have switched him food than what he had been eating before.

Puppies can have diarrhea, especially when first weaned from the mother dog. As for the sleeping, newborn and young puppies can sleep for up to 18 hours a day.

When a dog has diarrhea it's usually the food/diet it has that causes this. Follow food guidelines for the breed. It sleeps more as a natural way to get better.

In a word: Yes! If he is recently weaned and in a strange place eating strange food, that is very common. If he doesn't improve a great deal within 24 hours, see your vet.He may not have much appetite, but keep puppy chow & water available to him.
