What do I do when the backlight on my ipod won't go on?

It just stopped working one day. But I really need that light back.

Try restarting the iPod by simultaneously holding down its center button and the menu button (at the top of the scroll wheel). If that doesn't work you may have a defective screen. This is easy to replace. Simply buy a kit online which provides both the screen and required tools.

It is most likely a burned out bulb, or perhaps a problem with the wiring (perhaps a factory error). While it would be possible to fix it by yourself, it would be better to send it to the manufacturer for repair or replacement.

reboot the iPod: first turn the hold button on and off next hold the menu button and the center button of the click wheel at the same time.

You can do a Power drain. It means turn off your ipod, remove the headphone wire and take out the battery. Now press and hold the power button for 20 to 30 seconds. Then put the battery back in and turn on your ipod. It will work. This troubleshooting also applicable to all the electronic items.

You probably need a new light in it. Take it to the Apple store and they should be able to replace it for you.
