.wav files are essentially larger .mp3 files that can offer better sound quality. As for why they're on there, that depends entirely on where they were downloaded from originally.

.wav files are a type of audio file. They are an older encoding method and take up more space than .mp3 or apple audio files.

If you download songs off the internet sometimes they are in the .wav format when they are entered into itunes. These take up more space fyi.

Either you downloaded music and added to your ipod without converting it first through itunes or it was something created by the ipod itself. Some player have sound records that allow you to record things with the mic. If you have used this feature then this is likely where the file came from.

Most likely because you downloaded them. If you got your songs from a 3rd party music downloader other than iTunes such as Limewire, Bearshare, etc. some files come across as. wav files instead of mp3. You have to check before downloading.

The reason you have. wav files on your iPod is because when you downloaded the song, you didn't find one in the proper mp3 format, which is what works best for iPods. You should make sure that the song you are going to download is in. mp3 format, which will give you the best sound.

Someone must have put them there. Do you have children, a wife, or a really smart cat? Do you drink a lot? Files don't just magically appear on an ipod out of thin air.

If your Ipod has recording capabilities it may be from that. You may have recorded something on accident. Otherwise it could have simply been a file that has been copied over with something else to the player. It is a fairly common audio file format.

WAV files are a high-quality audio than MP3. The files you downloaded or program you used to rip a CD happened to be that format. Should still play.
