What do I do if my Cannon printer is not recognizing the black ink cartridge?

I have taken the cartridge out, put it back in, rebooted my computer and turned off my printer and it still is having issues.

There is a chance, and this happens a lot with Canon printers, that you need a new print head because in Canon printers, the print heads are not built into the print cartridges. If there is a setting on the printer that says 'clean print heads', try that. If not, you will need to buy a new print head.

Unplug the power supply completely from the printer, reinsert and power cycle the printer and computer. The last attempt would be to exchange/purchase a new ink cartridge and swap it out, test the new cartridge. Also, if possible test the printer on a separate PC to confirm results.

If the ink cartridge has electrical contacts on it (many do), try using a pencil eraser on them to remove and corrosion.

the printer ink is probably not the same manufacturer. check the brand and name. then compare it to the printer.
