What could cause my mower to shut off after ten minutes?

The most obvious would be a lack of fuel in the tank. A faulty magneto that expands due to heat is another likely source.

It is possible that you could have run out of gas. The mower could also have over heated. There could also be an automatic shutoff on the mower, or the air filter could have clogged

When your car is warming up it is running on set parameters. Until it reaches optimal running temperature it does not run the same. When it warms up it is possible that what ever changes when the set parameters changes your engine may shut off.

Your mower is being used on a hot day and the gas in the gas line is turning to vapor. This is called vapor lock.
