What is the difference between the fuel shut off solenoid and the carburetor?

This is for a Briggs and Stratton lawn mower.

The difference between a fuel shut off and a carburetor is that the fuel shut off stops the flow of gas to the carburetor will the mower is turned off. The carburetor actually gives fuel to the engine in order for engine to run. Most fuel shut offs are electrical when they come from the factory.
