What could be wrong if my whirlpool refrigerator will not start?

I have made sure that it is plugged in, however it is not running.

The first thing to check is the thermostat. Make sure it is turned low enough for the compressor to kick in. Next, check to see if the circuit breaker has been tripped. Try plugging it into a different outlet so that you can verify its not a problem with the plug.

Your main cooling coil could be not working or your electric cord could have problem. Call a licensed repairmen to help you out.

It may be plugged in, but is the circuit live? Try plugging a known good lamp into the outlet and see if it works. If not perhaps the breaker is tripped or off. Try setting the thermostat lower. If the compressor still won't start, call a qualified technician.

Does the refrigerator have an interior on/off switch that is turned to the "off" position? Or, you may need to turn the temperature setting down.

The first thing to check power flow where the refrigerator is plugged in. Unplug the refrigerator and plug in another appliance to make sure electricity is flowing to that point. If no power there could be a problem with the circuit breaker. The next thing to check is the temperature control.

The motor could be burned out, or there could be an electrical fault. If your fridge is still under warranty, you should contact the manufacturer. If it isn't, you should still contact them to try to find a licensed repairman. Modern refrigerators are quite complex, so you shouldn't try to fix it yourself.

Check thermostat first. Make sure its low for the compressor to kick in. Check circuit breaker to see if it been tripped. Then plug it in different outlet plug.
