Why won't my Whirlpool refrigerator freeze?

If your refrigerator won't freeze there are a few things you should check before you call the repairman. The temperature control inside the freezer compartment could have been moved. Sometimes these controls are on the top of the freezer compartment and hard to see. Also, pull the refrigerator out and vacuum the coils at the rear of the unit.

It sounds to me like there is a chance that your freezer section may be out of freon. You may want to try calling a place that sells this type of otem and find out how you check your freon level.

I assume you mean, why won't the freezer keep food frozen. It sounds like a problem either with the insulation around the door or with the compressor. Fixing the compressor is expensive, so check the insulation first.

It could be out of cooling gas that is stored in a closed system within. the system is possibly leaky. Or you have the cooling temperature too high.

The main reason any freezer will not freeze is if the thermostat is not working or if the compressor has gone bad.

I would have to guess you may need some freon. You may want to contact a whirlpool repair man and ask because it may be to expensive to get your freezer switched over since freon is no longer available. It may be cheaper to just buy a new freezer. Check with your retail store.

I'm not sure if you refrigerator has a freezer section on it, but if it does not, refrigerators typically are not designed to get cold enough to freeze food. You may need to buy a freezer if you don't have one.
