What could be wrong if my 2000 Nissan Maxima air conditioning does not cool?

It's probably low on refrigerant. They slowly leak over time, so after 10 years it could be low on coolant. It could have also have a leak. Take it to a qualified shop and have them look at it. I don't recommend working on your AC on your own.

It could quite possibly be out of coolant. You can get them recharged at the same place you get your oil changed for a small fee. But the air will be frosty.

There could be a lot of problems in the Air Conditioning system. First of all check the coolant. Get it refilled. You can also check the pressure by buying a gauge and checking it. If it is low then fill it up otherwise there must be some other problem. Best solution is to take it to a expert.

see if the clutch engages, if it does check the charge, you can buy a refill kit and it has a pressure gauge on it. if the pressure is low add the new freon and se if the pressure holds
