Acute glaucoma could cause this symptom. The other causes could be a sudden block in the retinal artery due to a clot, a bleed into the vitreous humor or retina or a block in the retinal vein.

Feline sudden blindness is most frequently found in older cats. The usual cause is hypotension, that is high blood pressure. As with people, one of the main aggravating factors for hypotension is excess weight, excess dietary salt and lack of exercise. Sudden blindness is serious for cats and professional medical advice should be sought.

Be sure your cat food contains taurine. A lack of this substance can cause blindness in cats. Otherwise, a trauma (injury, blow to the head). See your vet!
