From the father of a 5-year-old boy, the answer is: the child is 4-years-old. If tired, kids turn on a dime. Maybe wants attention / testing limits. Are friends the same? At 3, teacher said fights weren't AGAINST him, as he repeatedly told us, but he wasn't completely innocent, either.

I would immediately evaluate the child's intake of sugar, caffeine, and red food coloring in popsicles, candy, cheese snacks, etc....It would also be important to ascertain that the child gets the appropriate sleep. Plenty of physical activity and movement should also be provided as an outlet. Any emotional issues or possibility of abuse should be looked at.

Most 4 year olds, especially girls, are by nature very moody. Their little bodies easily and quickly get hungry and tired, so they can be happy one minute and monstrous the next. If you're still concerned after a year, bring it up with the pediatrician.

Check into the diet for this child. See if reducing the amount of sugar that the child is consuming helps to lessen the mood swings. The kid could also not be getting enough sleep.
