Most universities offer classes in archaeology. An archaeologst has advanced degrees in specific areas relating to his field of interest. Once a student determines that field of interest, it is easier to identify institutions that offer the sorts of programs that would further the field of study. This information is usually discussed among academics who are involved.

The way to break into the archaeologist field is to find a school offering both the academic side and a field study. Doing field study courses will not only give knowledge but experience. The Mercyhurst Archaeological Institute is a good one to check with. Also, check out the American Anthropological Association as they publish an annual book of good schools.
