How has affirmative action affected the way colleges admit students?

Affirmative Action allowed admission standards to be lowered for people who were disadvantaged or who presented themselves as such. By admitting people on lowered standards, qualified candidates were denied. A number of universities, medical and law school in particular, have been sued as a result. The Affirmative Action program has been discontinued.

It has led to a severe displacement of qualified Asians from many higher colleges because they are not "protected" minorities. Preference for women means that men are now a minority.
