The clutch pedal is connected by a cable to an arm that pushes on the throw-out bearing. The bearing can be bad, or cable, or pedal linkage.

There is no cable on our Ranger, there is a master and slave cylinder. This is the area of likely failure  add a comment

This is a common problem with the later model rangers that have the modular release bearing and slave cylinder. First try to bleed any air that may be in the system out, but more than likely you are looking at removing the transmission to replace that unit.

Clutches stick on cars and trucks all of the time. The main reason that a clutch sticks s that it is wearing out. This usually means disassembly and possibly replacing some or all of the clutch. There are some easy wear lines that can be inspected when the clutch is appart to see what if not all needs replaced

Check the flywheel for warping. If, when the clutch is engaged, you feel pulsations in the pedal or the car jerks, it needs a new flywheel.

The clutch is linked hydraulically to the clutch pedal. Depressing the clutch pressurizes the master cylinder, which engages a slave cylinder in the transmission bell housing. This pushes on the clutch pressure plate to disengage it. Check the clutch fluid first. If ok, the slave is likely bad. $$$
