External oily condensation on the covers is usually caused by a loose cover, cracked or worn valve cover gasket. Internal condensation is caused mostly by poor engine ventilation.

Well condensation on any thing means on any surface means that the other side is colder than the outside. The coldness of the backside causes water vapor in the air moving over the surface of the front side to condense. I assume this is just caused by the hotter air moving over them from the exhaust.

it is possible that you could have water in the valve cover. also, the engine temperature of the motor sometimes causes this condition. the valve cover may have a blocked vent.

When the coolness for the outside environment becomes to much the covers will tend to create condensation from the extreme heat and coolness.
