When you are breastfeeding, your child is getting everything you consume through your breastmilk. It is best not to take any medications.

Well any Theraflu formula that contains an antihistamine will most likely reduce your milk supply. As far as the safety it is shown that it is safe for you to continue to breatfeed your child as normal without worrying about harming them with the ingredients in Theraflu. They are all deemed safe to moderately safe.

The different Theraflu formulations can contain three or more ingredients including acetaminophen, chlorpheneramine, dextromathorphan, phenylephrine, diphenhydramine, pheneramine and guafenasine. Many decongestants and antihistamines can affect milk supply. Consult your doctor.

If the mother is suffering from the flu, then the breastfeeding is not recommended and not advised during those days of flu until and unless the mother gets all right and the flu symptoms are over. If breaastfeeding is allowed to the baby by the flu infected mother, the child would naturally get the ailment.

Theraflu is considered generally safe to take while breastfeeding. It may have a small effect on the milk supply, but it is generally short lived.

Always read the instructions on medication to determine if it is safe to take the medication while breastfeeding, or speak with your doctor.
