What can you tell me about dilation and curettage from miscarriage experiences?

I have miscarried twice. The first time, I chose to have an outpatient D&C (dilation and curettage). My biggest physical challenge was the extreme nausea while coming out of the full-body anesthesia. Sitting was very uncomfortable for a few days, but I wouldn't consider it real "pain." For me, the emotional aspects of the surgery were harder to get over.

This procedure is really good in making sure that your Uterus has expelled all of it's contents. It will help to prevent any infections.

If you have a dilation and currettage after a miscarriage you will experience cramping and bleeding as if you are getting your menstrual cycle. The bleeding however will not last as long as a period would.

When the doctors think there is a problem they will schedule a curettage usually about 24 weeks into the pregnancy. This involves stitching the cervix closed to prevent dilation and early labor.
