Start your baby on whole milk and continue to try to nurse as well. Most doctors will tell you to start babies on whole milk at 12 months of age anyhow, so starting a little early is not a big deal. If you are still unsure, talk with your pedatrician.

Make sure he is hungry before nursing. Try waiting an extra 15 minutes when he seems hungry before feeding. If you have a breast pump, try pumping and giving milk in a bottle. You could also introduce or use formula. If you want to avoid formula talk to your pediatrician about starting regular milk a little early.

Your baby is probably ready to be weaned off your breasts. A baby will wean it's self off it's mother's breasts when the baby is ready, usually around nine months of age. Don't be alarmed by this. If you wish to continue feeding your baby breast milk you can pump it and put it into bottles.

I have heard that children can loose the sucking mechanism that allows them to nurse. I don"t know the age this hapens but expect it to be dependent on the child. Perhaps it is a sign to include new foods into their diet and not force it.
