You need to let the people who care about you know what you are enduring, as it will make them more understanding and tolerant. You must also, of course, address the underlying depression.

You need to see a therapist regularly and be evaluated by a psychiatrist. You may need to be put on some medications--but they're really not as scary as they seem! They will start you off with something really mild. Depression is often due to a lack of serotonin receptors in the brain and medication can fix it.

If you are the one who is depressed, those who care about you will understand. They want you to be well, and will help you in any way you need -- you just have to be open with them, even if it seems scary. If you are dealing with a depressed friend or family member, your understanding and support will help.

Talk to somebody about it. If not a friend, than a professional (depending on how serious the depression is). If talking about it doesn't help, thank I would suggest medication.
