There are several types of bugs that are attracted to light, such as moths and the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug, the latter of which came to the United States via cargo ship. It's important to know most stink bugs have a shield-esque shape, and killing them produces an unpleasant odor.

It could be a moth they are always attracted to light. If it looks more like a bettle and is pretty large its is probably a june bug or june beetle

I believe it is a june bug or june beetle. We always used to catch them when we were children. They are clumsy and bump into everthing. The adult bugs eat on shrubs and trees. Larva will ruin grass. Fertilizers can be bought to kill them. They die off by the fall.

These brown beetles are Southern Masked Chafers, about half an inch long. Like Japanese beetles, they emerge from the white, C-shaped grubs you see when you dig the soil each spring. Yellow lightbulbs will not repel insects but are less attractive to night insects than white lightbulbs.
