It is most likely an earwig. They are not harmful but they do pinch so watch out if you get one on you.

Most likely the bug you are referring to is the Chernetid or Pseudoscorpion. These ugly critters are not uncommon. They are flat with pear-shaped bodies and pinchers which resemble those of scorpions. They usually dwell outside however they will inhabit homes where they can prey on ants and other insects.
