Female dogs come into season twice a year. The first "heat" is around the age of nine months. You might see changes in behaviors, but those can vary, depending on the dog. You will notice a swelling of the vulva, which is located in front of the anus.

The animal will probably be restless and have a swollen vaginal area. You should also notice some blood spotting for around 7 to 10 days. If they are in heat it will last for 21 days.

You will definatley know when she goes into heat, her vagina will swell up and she will be dripping blood from it. Not to mention every male dog for miles will be sniffing around your house.

She will back up to you alot and show her swollen female parts. She will want attention more. And there will be some blood just like in a human's cycle.
