On average most dogs would experience this between 11 to 13 months old. An early "heat" cycle for dogs sometimes would be from 6 to 9 months old. Anything less than that you should take the dog to the local vet for a check up.

mostly the average age would be 11-14 month, but there are cases in which the occur before hand or later. If you are not sure about the situation, you should take her to the vet for a examination.

They can start as early as four or five months old but you are right that is way to young her body isn't done growing whatever you do keep the males away from her it could cause her serious health problems if she were to be bred at such a young age and the puppies may be stillborn.

Symptoms include but not always is swelling of the Vulva area (or back end of the female), signs also would be a white milky discharge, followed by a pinkish discharge. If all else fails you can always tell by male dogs coming around and howling.
