Most places want degrees nowaday, whether it's a tech school or four year in criminal justice. Then you need to find a police academy, which offers education classes and physical tests. After graduating from a police academy you can start applying at police departments anywhere in that state.

You must be at minimum 20 years old, pass a fitness and written test and be a US citizen. A high school degree is a must, then usually a secondary degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or similar subjects. Once accepted you must complete and pass police academy training. The type of officer also has a bearing. Patrol, SWAT etc.
