Answer by  HarryK (46)

Acetylcholine (Ach) is a neurotransmitter that binds to two distinct kinds of receptors, muscarinic and nicotinic. Five different subtypes of muscarinic receptor have been identified (M1-M5). For the multi-protein nicotinic receptor, there are 17 proteins that can differentially combine to form a potentially large number of receptor subtypes.
