LSD causes a variety of reactions, including increased heart rate, tremors, pupil-dilation, fever, hypothermia, anxiety, elevated blood sugar, nausea, etc. It affects the brain so perception is distorted, life perspective changes, vision is affected, hallucinations are common--all of which depend on the experience, the environment and the dose.

It binds to the serotonin receptors in the brain, but its unknown how this translates into a psychedelic trip. LSD has very little effect on the rest of the body.

LSD affects many different receptors in the brain, including the dopamine receptors and adrenoreceptor. It binds to many serotonin receptors as well. The psychadelic effects are likely caused by the drug's interaction with the 5-HT2A receptors. The exact mechanism of its function is unknown, however.
