What are the dead round things in my yard?

Without knowing the color of the "round thing" it is hard to say. However, last year, I had an infestation of something called the spider beetle in my pantry. These are beetles with a dark red shell-like body and cream legs and head. This could well be your problem.

THats a very general question, if its an insect, plant, or animal you can take it to your local nursery and have them identify.
