Feline upper respiratory infection is one of the most common causes of breathing difficulties in cats. Malignant lymphoma, seen frequently in the chest, resulting in fluid formation, compression of the windpipe could also be the cause. Chronic allergic bronchitis can lead to asthma, in which the affected cat has attacks of extreme difficulty breathing.

Problems with their airways can cause them to breathe hard. Allergies can also make your cat sniffle and have trouble breathing. Another cause is if your cat has Feline Lukemia. They can get runny nose and watery eyes along with heavy breathing.

Cats oftentimes have trouble breathing because their throats are clogged with hair. To get rid of the hair, I would recommend giving your cat the type of cat treats that dissolve the hair caught in the throat.
