A cat's ladored breathing can be caused due to stress. however in some cases this may also be the cause of weak lungs. this could lead to a cardiac arrest.

If you are aware that your cat may be suffering from asthma, you should steer clear of all allergens that may trigger breathing problems. An unhealthy lifestyle on the cat's part-not enough exercise or poor diet-may also have an effect on the stamina of the animal showing impaired breathing.
