What are some tips for pruning crepe myrtles?

I don't know when to prune, or how to best do it.

Late winter or early spring is the perfect time to prune crepe myrtles for shaping, removing limbs and debris, or just maintenance in general. Prune old blossoms to encourage new.

Prune after the last blooms and you might get a secondary blooming. Otherwise, prune in the early spring so it'll have a nice shape for the growing season.

The bet time to trim crepe myrtle trees is just prior to the start of spring or very late winter and prior to the start of new growth.
