Tooth root infection caused by various feline viruses. Cats that only eat soft food for their lifetime tend to get more gum disease. Cats that eat hard crunchy type formula somewhat self clean their mouths. Receeding gums and tooth loss with aging cats causes areas in mouth to be open to infection. Mouth cancer possibility.

Red gums are usually a sign of dental disease. Mildly infected gums can be helped by tooth bushing if your cat will allow it. Very red or bleeding gums will need a professional scaling by a vet.

Red gums is probably a symptom of infection, perhaps an impacted tooth. She needs to see a vet and at least have a cleaning, at most kit needs to have some treatment for infection. This is not usually a nutritional problem, it is a dental issue, or something is caught in the gums and needs help.

Red gums are actually a symptom or signs. The main cause of red gums in cats is gingivitis, especially if it is seen just above the tooth line. Other causes include bacterial or viral infections or even bartonella. I would recommend your cat should see a veterinarian to help diagnose the cause.
