Talk to other people who have lost a parent. Siblings know exactly what you're going through. Close friends may offer solace. Go through photo albums to remember your parent during healthy, happier times. Join a grief support group. Be kind to yourself. Know that you will feel sad for a long time. That's okay.

To understand that the only constants in life are changes and that these vicissitudes are inherent in living is a good foundation from which to cope . Being aware and in touch with the concept that all living entities must die and we, the living, have no control over this inevitability.

Understand you are not alone. It is normal to feel sad. Keeping the person in your memory can help. Some religions have rituals, such as Judiasm where a mourner's prayer is recited. Other religions have similiar traditions.

Take one hour at a time. Get thru the funeral. Then deal with changing the mail address, the bank and all the financials. Do not be too quick about throwing things out. Look for the unexpected in their possessions. They had a reason for their treasure and their wishes. Respect that.
