Lower ph prescription cat foods are to prevent urinary tract infections in cats that are prone to them, especially intact male cats. Untreated this can lead to urinary crystals that can be painful and dangerous to your cat.

There is not one certain diet to lower ph in cats. One thing is for certain; always provide plenty of water in a separate dish. Serve canned food once daily.

Some good cat foods with a lower pH for cats are sold by Iams, Eukanuba and Purina. Also, have your vet prescribe one you can't get from the store is the problems persist. If you need this food because your cat has a severe urinary tract issue, they may need an additional supplement if it hasnt cleared up.

You should talk to your vet about specific foods that will help with that. Hill's Prescription Diet makes a food that helps with that.

The very best solution to lowering ph balance and preventing UTI's is to feed your cat a diet of wet food. This type of diet has been proven to prevent these kind of issues without forking out tons of money for prescription food that your kitty wont eat.
