First, invest in a DSLR camera. Nikon D3000 is a great camera, and at only about $500 it's a good value. You will need to learn PhotoShop, and most of all practice. Photograph everything!
Pay attention to lighting, it can make or break a picture! Also, if you're shooting digital, just keep playing around. Then go through and see what did and didn't work.
