What are some of the worst storms in history?

The impact of storms is measured in lives and damage. Hurricanes are the worst since they involve a deadly combination of wind and water. The National Hurricane Service lists the major hurricanes on record to date. Among them are Camille, Betsy, Katrina and some earlier ones that were not named.

Some of the worst storms in history includes Galveston in 2005, great storm in 1287, Ise Bay Typhoon in 1959, Galveston Hurricane in 1900, hurricane of the Okeechobee in 1928, and hurricane of East Pakistan in 1970.

Storms strike everywhere every year. Among the worst have been the 1935 hurricane that struck the coast of the United States on Labor Day. 423 people were killed. But an even deadlier storm storm stuck Galveston in 1900, killing over 8000 people. In 1974 over 100 tornadoes struck the Mississippi Valley, taking the lives of 315 people.

The galviston hurricane of 1900 was a catagory 4 hurricane it produce storm tides of up to 15 feet, and was responsible for the death of about 8000 people.

The most recent was hurricane Katrina a few years ago. Another was Hurricane Hugo and Hurricane Marilyn in the virgin islands.

The Cape May hurricane of 1821, the Miami hurricane of 1926, the Labor Day hurricane in 1935 (hit Florida keys), The Long Island Express of 1938 (hit New England), Hurricane Carla in 1961 (Texas coast), just to name some of the older ones.
