Storms strike everywhere every year. Among the worst have been the 1935 hurricane that struck the coast of the United States on Labor Day. 423 people were killed. But an even deadlier storm storm stuck Galveston in 1900, killing over 8000 people. In 1974 over 100 tornadoes struck the Mississippi Valley, taking the lives of 315 people.
