Many people criticized Milton Friedman because he clearly wanted to abolish the licensing of doctors which I think is crazy. I believe he talked of it in his book that was written in 1962. As you can imagine that created quite an uproar amongst many politicians and laymen also.

Economists widely accepted Milton's innovations but criticized his policy prescriptions. Some have been mentioned already but in addition to those he wanted a volunteer military. His heart might have been in the right place but could you imagine it? Who is really going to volunteer for war without pay?

Main critics of milton friedman's theory are libertarians who argue that giving governments power to control currencies, give tax rebates to encourage certain activities and otherwise intervene in free markets is, in the long term, harmful to individuals' liberties. On the other hand, proponents of keynesian school criticize his laissez-faire approach to markets.

Not all the critics werre libertarians. Mostly he was criticized for being seen as a totalitarian and a statist. Heck, who knows what our great-grandkids are gonna say about us in 30 years.  add a comment

He certainly didn't get critical acclaim for wanting to replace welfare with a negative income tax or by wanting to get rid of the Federal Reserve System. Interestingly enough some of the things people didn't like in the 60's they embraced in the 1980's.
