The best hair colors for African American depends on skin tone. You should never choose colors that 'bring out' yellows or greens in your skin. Reds tend to be the most flattering to dark skin colors. As well, darkening the hair to a satin black compliments dark eyes.

Dark brown or black looks the best, but if you want to try something different, a reddish brown, or caramel color will also look great without looking too odd.

A caramel brown color would look good. Colors that are a shade lighter than your skin will bring out your complexion.

Chocolate would be my first pick. Then some shades of brown, and even some darker shades of blond. I'm not sure about any dark colors on them although. The hair color should also match the shade of their complexion, so that it doesn't all blend in and make a unique, fade, color.

All colors look very nice accept red and blonde. They have a ton of colors in between those two that look wonderful on your hair also when you have it colored go to a slon they have toner they will use on it so that you get the color you want and not red.
