There have been many straighteners invented over the years. You have to be careful to which product you choose for your hair type. For coarse hair, I suggest Dark & Lovely. It takes a little longer but the results are great. For fine to thick hair, I would use Olive Oil Conditions. It's a natural relaxer.

As a permanent option, chemical relaxers work best. For a temporary solution use a Brazilian Keratin treatment (BKT). BKT usually last 3-5 months.

MaxiGlide is the best hairstraightners for African Americans because unlike other straightners this product straightens the hair with less effort. My hair is very thick and curly and no straightners could do as perfectly as Maxiglide.I just loved this product.Apply some heat protecting spray and divide the hair into section and start straightening from bottom to top.

The best thing for you to do is to go out and get a Marcel Oven. They will are made for that type of hair. You may have to get one off of the internet. just be careful not to burn your hair with this as they do get hot fast.

Any straighter that has no lye and conditions is good basically because they are a more gentle on the scalp. dark and lovely have kits made for regular and coarse hair that have a mosture replenishing system so your hair does not dry out. Relaxers tend to deplete the scalp of its natural oil (sebum).

I currently use the 'Tourmaline Ceramic' by Hot N Silky. You can buy one from sally beauty supply stores or online or from any general site like amazon. It comes with an adjustable heat setting (in fahrenheit) which is good for if you just got a relaxer or if your wearing your hair all natural.

There isn't any good hair straighteners. I'm half African American and I just started using the Sedu. It's great. But Chi is good.

The only thing I know that has truly been proven over the years to always work is the Hot Comb. But I also know that you can go to the salon and have it chemically straightened.

In my opinion Chi's are the best for any hair type. They may be a little more pricey, but they are better for your hair then most other hair straighteners.

For african american type hair, it is not recommended that a regular flat iron be used on the hair. Some with this hair type choose to blow dry their hair straight while a more old fashioned method for straightening african american hair is using a hot comb.
